1932The Naval League launches the competition: “Sta come torre” by Brunati and Bartoli wins; on 28 October building begins
1933On 4 November King Victor Emmanuel III inaugurates the Monument
1955The statue of the Virgin is placed in the notch of the rudder
196518 July: memorial slabs for the fallen of the Second World War and the votive altar with the perpetual flame
1968Dredging of the harbour brings back the bell of the battleship Benedetto Brin
1984The Monument becomes a working lighthouse
2002A law establishes the Day of Remembrance of Sailors lost at sea
